Threading, tint, or embroidery: choosing a brow service

Start with the job, not the technique

Three different appointments get called “doing my brows”. One removes the hair that grew in since last month. One stains the brow hair so you can skip a pencil on workdays. One places pigment in the skin so the shape is still there when you wake up. They are not steps on a single ladder, and you do not need the most permanent option to have tidy brows.

You approve a drawn shape before pigment work begins. Threading does not require that kind of commitment, which is the point of keeping the appointments separate.

Threading, when you want the hair gone

Eyebrow threading is $10. It is the appointment for a clean edge and a natural thickness, including if you have been over-tweezed and want the brow to look like itself again. Upper-lip threading is also $10. A fuller face threading with a mask is $28 when the stray hair is not only in the brow.

The session is short. Many people are in and out in about ten to fifteen minutes. The thread is fresh, the room is private, and the aftercare is simple: avoid rubbing the area and heavy products for the rest of the day. A little redness is common and usually fades within a few hours. Threading does not change the colour of the hair, and it does not stay “done” for a year. Hair grows back, which is why it suits people who like to adjust.

Tint, when the hair is there and hard to see

Eyebrow tinting is $38. It is for fair, sun-lightened, or sparse-looking hair that disappears without makeup. The tint sits on the hair, so it does not draw a brow you do not have, and it does not remove stray hairs. Plenty of clients pair a thread and a tint on the same visit. They are still two decisions: shape, then colour.

Eyelash perming ($48) is a lash service, not a brow service. It is worth knowing it exists if the real issue is that mascara is the daily chore, not the pencil.

Embroidery, when you want the shape without the pencil

Semi-permanent brow and liner work is a different kind of appointment. The design is drawn first. You look at it and say yes before pigment is placed. Healing, colour, and aftercare are explained before you start, because the result has to be lived with.

Guide prices on the semi-permanent menu run from eyebrow embroidery at $250 through misty and machine finishes, up to feathered brows at $880 and machine feathered brows at $1088. Lip embroidery is $880. Eyeliner sits on the same menu, from transparent liner at $300 to soft machine liner at $550. The right finish depends on skin, hair, and how soft or defined you want to look at rest. Oily skin often softens colour sooner.

Colour typically lasts somewhere between 12 and 24 months. Skin type, sun, and skincare change that. A follow-up around four to six weeks after the first session is the usual plan, so the healed colour can be checked rather than guessed on day one. This is not a lunchtime tidy. Give the appointment the time it asks for, and follow the healing notes you are given.

A practical way to choose

None of these replace a medical opinion on hair loss, scarring, or a skin condition in the brow. If the skin is broken or recently treated with a strong prescription, say so before you book. Pigment work in particular waits until the skin is a sensible canvas.

• You like changing your brow, or you are growing hair back: thread.
• The shape is fine and the colour is the problem: tint, with threading only if the outline needs it.
• You will not keep a pencil in the routine, and you have time to heal a design you approved: embroidery, after a proper consult.
• You are unsure: book the $10 thread or a conversation. Embroidery can wait until you have seen how a groomed natural brow looks on you.
